Our Church

What Are We About?

St. John’s is a church who thirsts to participate in God’s healing action in our community and world by serving, giving, praying, learning, encouraging and accepting. We see each person as deeply cherished and loved by God, and we strive to follow the way of Jesus by being a faith community centered in Christ’s hope. We seek to orient our lives around the way of Jesus, which is truly good news! Freed by God’s grace in Christ, we’re called to reshape the world around us with this good news.

It is our Mission to bring everyone from our community together to better know Jesus. We understand that our calling is a difficult one and that most people may frightened by it; however, we feel that we are called by a higher power. Just as it reads in Joshua 1:9 we should not be dismayed for the Lord our God is with us whenever we go. It is quite simply, go out, preach the gospel, love the broken, extend grace, and show the love of Jesus Christ.

What Denomination Are We Connected To?

Our denomination, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), is a church that aches with the brokenhearted and oppressed, seeking to bring dignity, compassion and justice into the world wherever it is needed.

Who Comes To Worship?

People with a wide range of life experience and backgrounds: Children, adults, senior citizens, and teenagers. Some arrive early for prayer, practice songs, or build friendship with others. Some arrive a few minutes late because life can get hectic and such. (No need to worry if you’re running a little late.) Some dress casually, some formally.

How long do services last?

It’s in worship that God so often finds us, renews us, gives us faith, helps enliven or awaken us to God’s presence who’s been there all along. Our services usually last about an hour (give or take) We have refreshments following worship on Sundays. We’re sent at the end of each worship service in God’s world to serve, live, and love like Jesus.

Are your facilities handicapped accessible?

Yes! The sanctuary (worship center) is on the first floor level, but it is accessible by an elevator available at the Wood Street Entrance in the Parish House. Our education building has two entrances; one off of Wood Street and one off of Clover Street. The elevator goes to the first floor that has the church offices, Meet & Greet Room, The Lounge, Jr. & Sr. High Youth Room and Handicap Accessible Restrooms. We have a glassed in walkway that connects the Parish House to the Church. The church also has a unisex in the Narthex which is on the same level as the Sanctuary.

We seek to orient our lives around the way of Jesus, which is truly good news! Freed by God’s grace in Christ, we’re called to reshape the world around us with this good news.
 

It is our desire to intentionally and directly work alongside other churches in our community to take the message of Jesus out to meet people where they are. We are uniquely equipped and have the flexibility to support this effort as we do not have to support the financial obligations and time to care for a facility. These resources allow us to have gatherings out in the community.

OUR PURPOSE​

We believe that the Holy Spirit regenerates and forever indwells all Christians. Either subsequently or at the same moment, Jesus Christ baptizes believers in the Holy Spirit to empower believers for ministry and witness. We also believe that signs and wonders, as well as all the gifts of the Spirit described in the New Testament, are operative today and are designed to testify to the presence of the kingdom and to empower and edify the church to fulfill its calling and mission. These gifts are subject to judging and are to confirm, and never supersede, what has been revealed in the Bible. Joel 2:28; Matthew 3:11; John 1:12-13; Acts 1:8; Acts 8:14-16; John 7:37-39; Romans 8:9; 12:3-8; 1 Corinthians 14:29; Eph 1:13-14; 5:18.

Purpose

St. John Lutheran Church (SJLC) recognizes that an individual’s privacy is very important and that they have a right to control their personal information. SJLC acknowledges that when an individual provides personal information about themselves to another party it is an act of trust. In response, SJLC takes the process of upholding an individual’s privacy very seriously. The following policy will govern how SJLC handles an individual’s personal information and safeguards their privacy.

What information of yours does SJLC collect?
We collect two different types of information. One type is voluntary information, which you provide, such as registration information for events, membership information or by registering for events or in the volunteering section of the site. The other type of information SJLC collects is user information provided by your computer each time you visit this site, such as IP address, browser.

What does SJLC do with the information that is collected?
Any information that you provide to SJLC or that is obtained through this web site may be used for church purposes. SJLC will not sell, rent or lease your personal information to commercial entities. SJLC will not disclose your name, address, e-mail address or phone number without your express consent, unless disclosure is necessary to comply with laws or relevant legal proceedings.

What are “cookies” and how does JLC use them?
Cookies are information that a web site transfers to an individual’s PC for record- keeping purposes (e.g., if you are a Wall Street Journal Interactive user, a cookie on your PC allows you to go directly to the WSJ instead of having to give your user name and password each time). As a courtesy, SJLC may provide links to other sites that are neither owned nor controlled by SJLC. These third-party sites, however, are NOT subject to or bound by the SJLC Privacy Policy. Such third-party sites may or may not have their own privacy policies and may or may not collect personal information from you or place cookies on your browser. SJLC is not responsible for the privacy policies or any information collection practices of these sites or any damages resulting therefrom.

What type of security procedures are in place to protect against the loss, misuse or alteration of your information?
The SJLC web site has built-in security measures to protect your information from loss, misuse and alteration. We use industry-standard practices, such as encrypted storage and password protection systems, to safeguard the confidentiality of information.

How does SJLC protect the privacy of children?
Unless otherwise disclosed during collection, photos of children will only be used with parental consent. If any services or features on the site require registration, a user 13 years old and younger will be required to provide the email of the parent or guardian which will allow us to notify that person that the child has registered for a service or feature. Parental or guardian consent will consist of an email from that person to SJLC stating that they are aware that the child is using the web site. Identifying a user as 13 or under is not easy and SJLC will not be held responsible for anyone misrepresenting as over 13 when in fact they are not.


SJLC reserves the right to change, amend, or restate this policy.
