Heritage to Horizon
Generosity for the Present and Future of St. John's
St. John’s history is rich with great legacies. They are legacies of generations that mirror the very history of our community. When we stand together in worship, we stand on the broad shoulders of generations dating back to before the Civil War. These shoulders have names like Lang, Rose, Zimmerman, Walther—and many other names imprinted upon our hearts. They have the names of our parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, uncles, aunts and dear friends.
The history of this congregation reveals that the broad shoulders of every generation at St. John’s has taken an active role in the spiritual life of the Fremont community. St. John’s is a formative place where the Holy Spirit stirs our hearts, inviting us to join in God’s work by serving, giving, praying, learning, encouraging, and accepting.
Our building continues to be a sacred space for study, worship, and fellowship as we live our calling, offer hospitality to our community, and grow in Christian faith. For many of us, the church building is a place set apart, cloistered from the pressures and demands of the world. It is a visual reminder in the Fremont community of the presence of this people of faith serving and working together. It’s a symbol of hope in the community. The improvements to restore the structure will steward this space for the continued ministry of the St. John’s parish.
God calls us to the future: “Follow me.” Past generations responded to this call. They walked in faith during uncertain times of war, drought, economic hardship and more, believing that God will continue to provide.
The broad shoulders we stand on now had hoped and prayed that we – and every generation which follows – would build on their legacies of faith. As we consider God’s work for us, a new generation, we pray we will be worthy of this rich and faithful heritage shared in Christ together, spanning all the generations.
